Business Rule Properties

Business rules for feature types are configured using the Business Rules page see Heading & Page. Required fields are indicated in bold type.

Settings Description

Component Type Grid

The Component Type grid displays the rule components of the current feature type. A feature type can be configured with up to three different types (e.g., Structure, Flow, and Propagation).

Name

The name of the rule component. This is typically the name of the feature type.

Type

The type of rule component. The following values are available: Structure, Flow, and Propagation. Only one of each type of rule component can be defined for a feature type.

Required Connections

The minimum number of required connections for the current feature type. This value must be an integer greater than 0 and is applicable only if the feature type is configured with Allowed Connection rules.

New button

Adds an empty row for creating a new rule component.

Delete button

Deletes the selected rule component.

Rulesets Grid

The Rulesets grid displays the rulesets for the selected rule component. This grid is disabled when the selected rule component is of the Propagation type.

Type

The type of ruleset. The following values are available: Allowed Connection, Attribute Relation, and Attribute Constraint.

Violation Message

The text of the message that is displayed when the ruleset fails. Clicking a cell in this column activates a button for opening the Violation Message list. Selecting a message in the list associates it with the current ruleset. A new message can be created by selecting the New Message option. For more information, see Ruleset Violation Message Editor.

Logic

Indicates the logic used by Expert Designer in checking the rulesets. The field is not editable and defaults to AND.

Rules Grid

The Rules grid displays the individual rules for the selected ruleset. This grid is disabled when the selected rule component is of the Propagation type.

Name

The name of the rule in the selected ruleset.

Logic

Indicates the logic used by Expert Designer in checking the rules in the ruleset. The field is not editable and defaults to OR.
